Serielizados reveals the 10 projects selected for ‘Mind the gap’

The initiative celebrates its first edition within Serielizados PRO, the industry section of the Barcelona Series Festival, which this year will feature the participation of representatives from BBC Studios, Beta Film, ARTE France, SVT, YLE, ZDF, 3Cat, Eurimages, MEDIA, Filmin, EITB and Atresplayer, as well as a case study with the producers of the series Ravalejar and The Danish Woman. In addition, Serielizados will offer masterclasses by Sally Wainwright and Leticia Dolera.

Serielizados announces the 10 selected projects of the first edition of Mind the Gap, an international co-production pitch for series that was launched with the aim of helping projects secure their final funding, giving them visibility and promoting European co-productions and international sales. The initiative is looking for first seasons of high-quality series or miniseries in the development or pre-production phase.

The selected projects will take part in this pitch in front of audiovisual industry professionals and will receive feedback from an international jury composed of Susanne Frank (ZDF), Sonja Hermele (SVT), Jarmo Lampela (YLE), Peter Lohner (Beta Film), Virginie Padilla (ARTE) and Diego del Pozo (Atresplayer). Commissioners, sales agents and executives of European broadcasters and platforms are the jury that will select one winning project, which will receive a prize of €5,500.

Of the 10 selected projects in the pitch, 7 were chosen by a commission appointed by the organization through an open call. The remaining projects were selected from among participants in the Seriencamp Co-Production Pitch, ECAM Series Market of ECAM Forum, and one Swedish project presented in partnership with Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Drama Vision.

Mind the Gap is supported by the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (Government of Catalonia) and SGAE Foundation, through SGAE Territorial Board of Catalonia. Also collaborating are ECAM (Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid), Seriencamp festival in Cologne (Germany), Göteborg Film Festival, the Swedish Institute, and the Embassy of Sweden in Spain.

The pitch will take place on November 6th at the headquarters of SGAE and will be hosted by Elena Neira.

Serielizados PRO

Mind the Gap is part of Serielizados PRO, the section that hosts the professional activities of Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival.

Serielizados PRO will feature the presence of commissioners and programming executives from Filmin (Jaume Ripoll, Co-founder and Editorial Director), Atresmedia (Diego del Pozo, Head of Fiction), and EITB (Joselu Blanco, Director of Programming), who will present their respective strategies in Meet the Commissioners sessions with attending industry professionals.

There will also be a case study session on European co-productions based on the series Ravalejar, by Pol Rodríguez and Isaki Lacuesta, to be released soon, and The Danish Woman, by Benedikt Erlingsson, which this year competes in the International Official Section of the festival.

For Ravalejar, its producer Sandra Tapia (Arcadia Motion Pictures) will take part in the session. The production company is behind titles such as Burning Body, As bestas or Robot Dreams, for which it received an Oscar nomination in the Best Animated Feature category. On the other hand, The Danish Woman will be represented by Marianne Slot and Carine Leblanc, from the production company Slot Machine, which is responsible for films by filmmakers like Lars von Trier, Lisandro Alonso, Naomi Kawase or Lucrecia Martel, among others.

Serielizados PRO will also offer a session on the current state of international series distribution with the participation of Rebecca Ransley (BBC Studios) and Christian Gockel (Beta Film); as well as the session MEDIA & Eurimages: Public European Funding for Series, led by Àlex Navarro, head of the Creative Europe Desk – MEDIA Catalunya, and Alessia Sonaglioni, head of the Series Co-Production Programme at Eurimages.

A session on musical supervision in fiction series in collaboration with Konga Music Agency will also be announced soon.

Masterclasses

British creator, screenwriter and director Sally Wainwright, author of such notable series as Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack, is one of the featured international guests at the 12th Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival. Wainwright will present her new series, Riot Women, in competition in the festival’s International Official Selection, and will deliver a masterclass as part of Serielizados PRO in collaboration with GAC (Guionistes Associats de Catalunya).

Serielizados PRO will also host another masterclass, in collaboration with DAMA, on the series Pubertat, with its creator Leticia Dolera and Reversa (Alba Muro and Núria Iturbe), a consultancy specializing in forensic psychology and managing violence and trauma.

Pubertat is an original Max series written by Leticia Dolera, with the collaboration of Almudena Monzú as co-writer on three episodes and David Gallart as co-story writer on two episodes. It is a production by Distinto Films, Corte y Confección de Películas, Uri Films, and 3Cat, in co-production with the Belgian company AT-Productions. The series is supported by the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises (ICEC), the programme Europa Creativa MEDIA, and Eurimages. The series will be available soon on HBO Max and 3Cat.

Further activities and new masterclasses, in collaboration with ESCAC and ECAM respectively, will be announced soon, featuring international creators and showrunners.

Making of by DAMA: Delta

Serielizados will also include in its program a Making of session at Espai DAMA, dedicated to the series Delta, by David Gonzàlez. The 3Cat series was part of the National Official Selection of last year’s festival, where actress Raquel Ferri received a Special Mention for her performance.

Taking part in the session will be David Gonzàlez (creator, director, and screenwriter) and Laia Foguet (screenwriter).

Serielizados – Festival de Series of Barcelona celebrates its 12th edition this year, from November 3 to 12, at the CCCB, Mooby Aribau cinemas, CASA SEAT, SGAE Catalonia, and Espai DAMA.

The festival has already announced the series competing in the International Official Section (A Better Man, A Life’s Worth, Empathy, Reykjavik Fusion, Riot Women and The Danish Woman), along with other titles and activities.
