Serielizados announces the first edition of Mind the Gap, an international pitch for series co-productions created with the goal of helping projects cover the final stretch of their financing, giving them international visibility and promoting European co-productions and international sales. The pitch will take place on November 6 at the headquarters of the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE) in Catalonia and will be part of the activities of Serielizados PRO, the industry section of Serielizados – Barcelona International Series Festival. The festival will take place this year from November 3 to 12.
A total of 10 projects will be selected from the submissions to participate in this pitch in front of professionals from the audiovisual sector, and will receive questions and feedback from an international jury composed of commissioners, sales agents, and representatives from European broadcasters and platforms. The jury will select one winning project that will receive a prize of €5,500. In addition, after the pitch, all participating projects will have the opportunity to hold one-to-one meetings scheduled by the organization.
Mind the Gap is supported by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the SGAE Foundation, through the Territorial Council of the SGAE in Catalonia. The initiative is also supported by ECAM (School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid), the Seriencamp Festival in Cologne (Germany), the Göteborg Film Festival, the Swedish Institute, and the Embassy of Sweden in Spain.
Of the 10 projects participating in the pitch, 7 will be selected by a committee appointed by the organization, composed of screenwriters and script analysts, from an open call. The remaining 3 projects will be selected from participants in Seriencamp Co-Production Pitch, ECAM Forum, and a Swedish project chosen with the support of the Göteborg Film Festival.
The initiative is looking for first seasons of high-quality series or miniseries, with a minimum of 3 episodes and a minimum runtime of 26 minutes per episode. Projects must be in development or pre-production phase. Ideally, they should have part of their financing secured and a broadcaster, platform, or distributor attached. In addition, the series must be suitable for co-production and only fiction series projects will be accepted (children’s, animated, and documentary proposals are not included).
