Serielizados Next presents the screening of the first two episodes of this wonderful series about intersex adolescence.
Sasha (Angèle Metzger) is a seventeen-year-old girl who has just moved to a new town with her younger sister Pauline (Saul Benchetrit) and her parents. Nothing out of the ordinary. But Sasha insists to Pauline: “Don’t forget, no one can know.” But… what is it that we cannot know?
Like our protagonist, we don’t really know what is going on in her life. But we want to know. Little by little, through flashbacks and confessions behind closed doors, we discover the secret: Sasha is intersex, which means that her sexual anatomy does not fit within the traditional ‘male or female’ schemes.
Sasha was identified as a boy at birth, and his intersexuality has always been perceived and treated by his parents as an illness. A kind of “painful biological mistake” on her way to a normative masculinity.
After being kept in the dark for so long, and after years of being pushed to identify as something she is not (a boy), Sasha has learned to live with anger and fear. Between the doctors, who have always tried to “fix” her, and her parents, who have always hidden it “to protect” her, her perception of herself and her own body is deeply troubled. Although she still has many questions, she is ready for a new beginning.
About Sasha is a tremendously emotional story about growing up in a cage, the loneliness that comes with adolescence and the challenge of living in harmony with one’s own body. Unafraid to be educational and direct, this series excels in its naturalism, its direction, its actors and above all, its subject matter.
Serielizados Next is a year-long initiative in collaboration with Acció Cinema. In Serielizados Next there is room for the issues that will mark the social agenda of the next decade. That is why About Sasha could not be missing in our selection of screenings.
