'Magpie Murders' (AXN)

Serielizados Fest Santa Eulària des Riu (Ibiza) screens the latest UK detective phenomenon: ‘Magpie Muders’.

Magpie Murders is based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Horowitz, one of the most prolific and widely read young adult writers of recent years. His fame came especially after the success of the novels starring the character Alex Rider.

But in 2016, Horowitz made a u-turn towards detective literature with his new series of novels centered on the character of Susan Ryeland, titled Magpie Murders. Driven by the literary heritage of Agatha Christie (and her immortal Hercule Poirot), the British writer gave fans of the genre a new investigator on which to bank their fantasies.

The story of this Magpie Murders is highly original: the famous mystery writer, Alan Conway, dies without finishing his last novel. His editor, Susan Ryeland, begins an adventure between fiction and reality to build the unfinished literary puzzle. But which details belong to real life and which to fantasy? Ryeland will go through the writer’s life and also through his imagined worlds in this wonderful adaptation.

The series stars Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville for the film ‘The Invisible Thread’.

After being a great success in sales and translated into multiple languages, Magpie Murders makes the leap to television with a series produced by the prestigious PBS network, which (among other series) has produced All Creatures Great and Small and Around the World in 80 Days. According to Horowitz himself, “this is the first time a novel of mine has been adapted well”. A high-flown comment that could well come out of Poirot’s mouth.

The series stars Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville as book editor Susan Ryeland in the film The Invisible Thread. According to her intuition, writer Conway’s death is indeed a murder, and the last manuscript he left behind during his lifetime contains clues to the real-life murder.

Magpie Murders had its world premiere at Séries Mania 2022, the most important television fiction festival in France, and now comes to Spain through Serielizados Fest Santa Eulària (Ibiza). Will you miss it? The session will be introduced by journalist Alberto Rey.
