‘La Fugida, veritats ocultes’ (3Cat)

In this new edition of Serielizados, docuseries take on an even more significant role. One of the premieres will be the Catalan La fugida, veritats ocultes, a 3Cat production that follows real stories of sexual abuse against minors within religious schools.

After the success of the feature-length documentary La Fugida, which exposed years of sexual abuse in the Jesuit order, 3Cat now launches this new docuseries with new cases of abuse and reveals how the perpetrators have avoided justice and how institutions and religious congregations have protected them.

In La Fugida, veritats ocultes, the first episode focuses on the case of the religious Josep Blay, convicted in 2023 for abusing a group of girls in Alella, although he had already left victims in the Piarist schools of Sitges in the sixties. The second chapter portrays the trajectory of Manel Sales, a missionary who abused children in Senegal for twenty-five years. Despite acknowledging the facts, he was never tried and continued to live under the protection of the order in Catalonia. The third episode addresses the consequences of the statute of limitations on crimes and the impunity that this entails. It includes the cases of Joaquim Calvet, reported for possession of child pornography, and Arnaldo Farré, an aggressor in the Maristes case who lived hidden under a false identity until his death.

Led by journalist Guillem Sánchez, the series combines testimonies and journalistic investigation to reveal how the silence of the institutions continues to mark the lives of the victims and the collective memory.
