Animated Series Block: ‘Soul Shift’ and ‘La vraie vie’

Soul Shift is a clever adventure that explores the meaning of life and the origin of the universe through two atypical protagonists. The series offers not only a spectacular, fast-paced, and witty adventure but also shows that alongside the purely physical forms of life, there exists a clearly metaphysical dimension in all existence, something that unites us all and makes life in the universe possible.

Different beings responsible for giving life to everything —called “Souls”— are the protagonists of this story. In this way, the series proposes possible answers to questions such as: what is the meaning of life? And how did the universe come into being? With echoes of other titles such as Rick & Morty or Futurama, the series stands out for its visual style and storytelling featuring over one hundred characters.

La vraie vie, on the other hand, is a documentary in which Victor, a young actor questioning his profession, takes on a new role that confuses him: to explore, as an avatar, an online video game in a virtual world where everyone follows the rules. Everyone… except him. As he navigates this strange and eerily real simulation, Victor’s journey becomes as absurd as it is profound, blending humor, doubt, and revelation.

Throughout its episodes, La Vraie Vie examines our relationship with reality and how identity transforms when life and simulation intersect. The series surprised audiences at festivals such as Cannes Series and Visions du Réel with its innovative approach.
