The series ‘Más allá de la sociedad’, ‘Sicarios’, and ‘Justo: el poder d’una veu’ join the lineup for the 13th edition of Serielizados.

Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival announces the latest additions to the in-person lineup of its 13th edition, which will take place from October 19 to 28 at the CCCB – Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, at Mooby Aribau cinemas, at the Phenomena Experience hall, at CASA SEAT, and at the DAMA space. The festival thus adds new premieres and activities to a lineup that, once again, brings together fiction, documentary, and various formats focused on serial creation.

Premiere of Más allá de la sociedad (Netflix), by J.A. Bayona and Carlos Torres

Serielizados will host the Catalonia premiere of Más allá de la sociedad, following its global premiere in the Official Selection at the San Sebastián Festival. It is a Netflix docuseries, created by J.A. Bayona and Carlos Torres, which analyzes what happened in Carrasco when only a few returned from the mountain, and in which Bayona himself and much of the cast of his film Society of the Snow travel to the Andes, to the exact site of the plane crash that inspired the story, to bring about a unique encounter between reality and fiction.

The three-episode series brings together for the first time testimonies from survivors and family members of those who never returned. It also features writers Piers Paul Read (author of Alive!) and Pablo Vierci (author of Society of the Snow), as well as the filmmakers who brought this story to the big screen: Frank Marshall and J.A. Bayona.

Serielizados will screen the full series, with members of its artistic team present.

Premiere of Sicarios (Movistar Plus+), by Carles Porta

The festival will also premiere Sicarios (Movistar Plus+), a new production by Carles Porta about organized crime and drug trafficking on the Costa del Sol.

A man known as Maradona and his family are celebrating his son’s First Communion in San Pedro de Alcántara (Marbella). As they get into their car to go to the banquet, a hitman wearing a helmet shoots him five times. His two children and his wife witness the event. Months later, the man who ordered his execution dies in a hail of bullets upon leaving his home in Estepona. The investigation into both homicides uncovered a dangerous ring of Nordic hitmen settled on the Costa del Sol, led by Amir Faten Mekky, a young Dane of Iranian origin.

Premiere of Justo: El poder d’una veu (3Cat), about Justo Molinero

Another highlight of the festival’s 13th edition will be the world premiere of Justo: El poder d’una veu, a new 3Cat docuseries covering the life and career of the popular broadcaster Justo Molinero, founder and president of Grupo TeleTaxi.

Directed by Amanda Sans and produced by 3Cat in collaboration with Incís, the series combines over forty years of archival footage with testimonies from Molinero’s family, close inner circle, and personalities who have shared stages, microphones, offices, and key career moments with him.

With intimate access to the protagonist, the series also features contributions from, among others, the Presidents of the Generalitat Jordi Pujol, Artur Mas, and José Montilla; political figures such as Gabriel Rufián and Manuela de Madre; musical artists like Estopa, Los Chunguitos, María del Monte, and Diana Navarro; and broadcasters including Carlos Latre, Anna Simon, and Lorena Castell.

‘Justo: El poder d’una veu’ (2026)

More premiere series: Los casos de Susan Ryeland: Marble Hall Murders (AXN) and David: Story of David, starring Nathan Fielder

Serielizados will exclusively present Los casos de Susan Ryeland: Marble Hall Murders (AXN), the third installment in the Susan Ryeland saga. The television adaptation is written by Anthony Horowitz, author of the novels, directed by Rebecca Gatward, and starring actress Lesley Manville, known for films such as Phantom Thread or Another Year.

In this new installment, publisher Susan Ryeland returns to England to work on a new novel featuring the fictional detective Atticus Pünd. The book is being written by a young author with personal and family troubles, but the literary investigation soon turns into a real murder case. Susan ends up getting caught up in a complex plot and even becomes a suspect. As in previous installments, the story plays with a ‘mystery within a mystery’ structure: on one hand, following Susan’s contemporary case, and on the other, Atticus Pünd’s investigation set in Corfu in 1955.

Another key title in the festival’s 13th edition will be David: Story of David, a web series unreleased in Spain that Serielizados revives ten years after its initial premiere. It follows a dull, ordinary man whose life takes an unexpected turn when a fortune teller announces he has five weeks left to live. The series, which Serielizados premieres in full, stars Nathan Fielder, one of contemporary comedy’s most unique creators, known for titles like Nathan for You, The Rehearsal, or The Curse.

David: Story of David is directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp, who would later achieve major success with the animated film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Among other highlights, the series also features actress and comedian Jenny Slate (Dying for Sex).

Children’s session with Projecte Beta (3Cat), international casting talk with Frank Stein and The Actors Home, and script & directing activities at DAMA headquarters

As usual, Serielizados will also dedicate a space to young audiences with a special session of Projecte Beta, the transmedia series from Super3, 3Cat’s kids’ channel. The show follows the adventures of members of a music band living together in an old warehouse. After ten seasons accompanying children across Catalonia, the Beta group members have become some of Super3’s most beloved fictional characters, building a loyal fan base that follows them wherever they go. The session will feature a screening of two episodes and the presence of the Beta members themselves.

Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival will also present a special session focused on casting in the international audiovisual industry, hosted by Frank Stein Studio and The Actors Home. Titled Casting Without Borders: Finding Talent for a Global Screen Industry, the gathering brings together casting directors Frank Moiselle, Jenny Duffy, and Nathalie Chéron with international actor and talent agent Alain Van Goethem, founder of Lucky Star International Talent Agency, in a conversation moderated by Luci Lenox.

The session will focus on how talent is discovered, represented, and cast across borders in a landscape where productions are increasingly international, connecting different markets, languages, and cultures.

• The festival lineup also includes two activities taking place at DAMA headquarters in Barcelona.

On one hand, a live public recording of a new episode of La Trama, the podcast on screenwriting and audiovisual writing that brings two screenwriters face-to-face in each episode to discuss their careers, creative processes, and the craft of writing for the screen. The episode is titled How to Write Depressing Comedy, and will feature screenwriter, cartoonist, and comic artist Martí Melcion alongside screenwriter and comedian Ignasi Taltavull, who recently co-wrote the series Se tiene que morir mucha gente. The podcast is hosted by Víctor Sala, Xènia Puiggrós, and Pau Subirós, and produced by Serielizados in collaboration with DAMA, supported by ICEC and the Master’s in Audiovisual Screenwriting at UB and UdL.

On the other hand, there will be a session aimed at screenwriters and directors offering essential advice and key points to consider when signing contracts with production companies. Designed as a practical guide to reviewing screenwriting and directing contracts, it will feature Ignacio Monter, lawyer at Guionistes Associats de Catalunya (GAC), moderated by Pau Ortiz (Serielizados). The session is titled Key Negotiation Points in Screenwriting and Directing Contracts.

Awards Ceremony, Full Juries, and More Festival Activities

On Saturday, October 24, at the CCCB Theatre, Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival will hold the awards ceremony for its two official competition categories: the National Official Section and the International Official Section. All jury members will attend the gala to present the awards.

As previously announced, the National Official Section jury consists of Claire-Marine Pietriga, Deputy Artistic Director of Canneseries; Rowan Woods, TV series programmer at the Berlinale and former Creative Director of the Edinburgh TV Festival; and Roosa Toivonen, co-director of the TV Beats Forum at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. As also previously shared, the International Official Section features filmmaker Rodrigo Sorogoyen (President of the DAMA Jury) and comedian, writer, and creator Victoria Martín. Joining this jury is actress Anna Ycobalzeta, known for her roles in series such as Merlí and films like The Mosquito Net, who recently starred in Episòdic: El principi d’Arquimedes (betevé), making its world premiere at the festival.

The series screened during the awards ceremony will be the previously announced Belzebubs (3Cat), an adult animated series co-produced with Finland and Italy. Filmed in a mockumentary style, it is based on the cult webcomic created by Finnish author JP Ahonen (who also created this adaptation). It follows a family man juggling fatherhood and daily household issues with his true passion: succeeding with his satanic black metal band.

‘Belzebubs’ (2026)

Following the ceremony, the CCCB Hall will host the traditional Serielizados party with DJ Meneo, a Guatemalan musician famous for his wild stage energy and his explosive mixes of pop hits and tropical electronic music.

Also joining the lineup are Claudia Arias and Melissa Jonker, hosts of the podcast Sexessive, who will introduce and moderate the panel discussion with the creators of the German series Naked (Silke Eggert and Sebastian Ladwig), competing in the International Official Section. The Sexessive podcast centers on authentic, unfiltered conversations about sexuality, relationships, and everything people think but rarely say out loud.
