Serielizados 2026 confirms new titles and guests

‘Matar a un oso’ and ‘Celeste’ (S2), new series in the Official National Competition

The Movistar Plus+ Original series Matar a un oso and Celeste (Season 2) will compete in the festival’s Official National Competition. They join the previously announced In Vitro (3Cat and HBO Max) and Segunda temporada (Filmin), contending for the best series, best screenplay, and best performance awards.

Matar a un oso, a Movistar Plus+ Original series, is the new fiction project by brothers Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo, following the success of Nos vemos en otra vida and other titles such as La zona or Crematorio. The series features a cast led by Maria Rodríguez Soto, Eduard Fernández, Miki Esparbé, Nora Navas, Pol López, and Àlex Monner, recreating the real-life case of the death of Cachou the bear in the Val d’Aran during the 2020 lockdown—an event treated with the rigor of a homicide investigation that uncovered a pressure cooker of local grudges, secrets, and tensions among those involved. The creators and cast will attend the premiere. Matar a un oso is a Movistar Plus+ original series co-produced with ARTE France and in collaboration with Kubik Films (STUDIO TF1).

The 13th edition of Serielizados will also host the world premiere of the second season of Celeste, a Movistar Plus+ Original series co-produced with 100 Balas, created by Diego San José, directed by Elena Trapé, and starring Carmen Machi, all of whom will attend the premiere. This marks the return of one of Spain’s most successful series, acclaimed by both audiences and critics, which won the award for best screenplay at Serielizados 2024 in its first season. This time, Carmen Machi returns as Sara Santano in a new case where she confronts a famous footballer evading his tax obligations.

Official International Competition Series and Guests: ‘Ann Droid’, Hagai Levi, and More

Serielizados will showcase six series making their national premiere in Spain as part of its Official International Competition.

The festival will premiere Ann Droid (Filmin), the new series created by and starring Diane Morgan, best known for her iconic character Philomena Cunk. In this new series, the comedian plays an obsolete android model designed to assist elderly people. Ann Droid is a BBC original series that achieved major ratings and critical success in the UK thanks to its irreverent yet heartwarming take on grief and human relationships.

The Official International Competition will also host the premiere of another British series, Negocios turbios (premieres in October on Movistar Plus+), a thriller based on true events starring actors David Thewlis and Jason Watkins as two citizens who expose an ecological disaster.

Two series arrive from Germany. First, A Better Place, a thriller blending science fiction and social commentary centered around an ethical experiment to completely abolish the prison system. The screening will feature the presence of co-creator Alexander Lindh. Second, the festival will premiere the provocative Naked, an erotic and psychological drama exploring sex addiction and the boundaries of desire, attended by creators Silke Eggert and Sebastian Ladwig.

The section will also include the premiere of Camarades, a French satire set at a university during the May ’68 revolts. The series was created by Benjamin Charbit (Zorro) and Dominique Baumard (The Bureau) and was screened at the Series Mania festival, where Manon Kneusé won the award for best actress in the French competition.

Finally, Serielizados will host the premiere of Etty, a Netherlands-Germany-France co-production marking the return of Hagai Levi, one of contemporary television’s most prominent creators (In Treatment, The Affair, Scenes from a Marriage).

Levi will attend the festival to present this series based on the true story of Dutch writer Etty Hillesum at the moment she began a turbulent romantic relationship with her psychologist. Starring Julia Windischbauer and Sebastian Koch, the series avoids conventional historical drama in favor of a deliberately anachronistic aesthetic.

Juries of the Official Competitions

Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Victoria Martín will serve on the Jury for the festival’s Official International Competition. Alongside a third member to be confirmed, they will decide the international awards for best series, screenplay, and performance.

Rodrigo Sorogoyen (President of the DAMA Jury) is a filmmaker and creator of the series Los años nuevos and Riot Police. His latest feature film, El ser querido, recently premiered in theaters after being selected for the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival and shortlisted to represent Spain at the Oscars.

Victoria Martín is a screenwriter, comedian, author, and creator of the series Se tiene que morir mucha gente, one of the year’s biggest television hits.

The Official National Competition will feature the following jury, responsible for awarding best series, screenplay, and performance:

• Claire-Marine Pietriga. Deputy Artistic Director of the Canneseries festival.
• Rowan Woods. TV series programmer at the Berlinale and former Creative Director of the Edinburgh TV Festival.
• Roosa Toivonen. Co-director of the TV Beats Forum at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

Serielizados Presents with Ferran Adrià

Chef Ferran Adrià will attend Serielizados for a conversation with journalist Marc Casanovas about the series Gènesi (3Cat), a dramatized account of the rise of El Bulli restaurant. The chef will also reflect on the global boom of culinary series, addressing topics such as the complex dialogue between fiction and reality and the on-screen portrayal of creative genius. The event will take place at CASA CUPRA Raval.

Catalan Productions: ‘Belzebubs’, ‘Future Manifest’, and Catalan Microseries Showcase

As usual, Serielizados devotes significant space in its lineup to Catalan-produced or co-produced series.

The festival will premiere Belzebubs (3Cat), an adult animated series co-produced with Finland and Italy. Shot in a mockumentary format, it is based on the cult webcomic by Finnish author JP Ahonen (who also created the adaptation) and follows a father trying to balance raising his children and daily family life with his true passion: making it big with his satanic black metal band. The screening will be introduced by Lassi Vierikko, the series’ co-writer.

Following its world premiere at SeriesFest in Denver, USA, Serielizados will host the national premiere of Future Manifest, an episodic sci-fi project created by Marc Martínez Jordán. Through both conceptual and humorous lenses, the series explores dilemmas surrounding robotic humanism and the boundaries of technology.

The festival will also hold a new edition of the Catalan Microseries Showcase, featuring screenings of finalist projects from emerging audiovisual talent. Organized by Serielizados and the Premis Zoom d’Igualada, with collaboration from the EVA platform, the initiative reaffirms its commitment to boosting Catalan-language content and providing a platform for rising creators.

The finalist projects for the 2026 Microseries Showcase are: Barcelona posa’t guapa (Joan Pàmies, Nicolás Auger), Barna rupestre (Lucía Mercader, Sara Guixé), Currelas (Xavier Mata Badenas), Megaestructures en un Minut! (Pavlo Puyalto), and Neocurros (Pep Molina).

Selected projects compete for the EVA Award, judged by platform professionals, offering the winner(s) the opportunity to participate in EVA community content. They are also eligible for the Youth Jury Award, sponsored by AVisual PRO, awarded by a panel of young audiovisual professionals. The prize consists of a voucher for equipment rental and/or studio space for one year. Awards will be presented during the Premis Zoom ceremony in Igualada.

Comedy Takes Center Stage at the 13th Edition

Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival puts a special emphasis on comedy this year, screening some of the most notable comedy titles of the season.

The festival will host the Spanish premiere of Lorne, a documentary feature about Lorne Michaels, creator of Saturday Night Live, American television’s most influential comedy show. Packed with unseen archival footage, the film features interviews with iconic writers and cast members across its 50-year history, including Tina Fey, Chris Rock, John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Conan O’Brien, and Steve Martin. Directed by Morgan Neville, Oscar winner for 20 Feet from Stardom (2013).

Serielizados will also present a showcase featuring the Spanish premieres of two major comedy titles: The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins and New Zealand Spy. The former comes from the creative team behind 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, starring Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe. The latter is one of the year’s standout surprises—a spy film parody created by and starring comedian Paul Williams, featuring Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords).

Basque-Language Series and Additional Confirmed Titles

Building on last year’s programming, Serielizados again highlights Basque productions in original Basque audio, introducing two new titles from EITB’s platform Primeran: Aloka(h)iru and Estu. In the first, directed by Alba Lozano and Nitya López, three friends run underground operations out of their apartment after learning they face eviction. In the second, created by the art collective Arriguri and directed by Ander Mateos and Xabier Ojinaga, a psychologist defies a lockdown order to pursue sexual encounters.

The festival will also exclusively premiere the Chilean series Raza Brava, created by Emmy winner Hernán Caffiero. Recently awarded at the Italian Global Series Festival, it takes a historical look at the radical supporters of Santiago’s Colo-Colo football team. Another thematic block will highlight series exploring the migration crisis, systemic racism, and social exclusion through unconventional lenses: a dystopian thriller (Belgium’s The Best Immigrant) and a subversion of the superhero genre (Germany’s All Heroes Are Bastards). Additionally, two youth-focused school sessions will screen series tackling contemporary issues: adolescent eating disorders (France’s All Shapes of Us, releasing on Filmin) and the ethics of artificial intelligence (Canada’s Deepfake).

These new screenings join previously announced highlights: the opening night competition screening of In Vitro (Official National Competition), Segunda temporada (Official National Competition), a live recording of the podcast Literaturium de series, an in-person panel with Steven Moffat, the closing session featuring Episòdic: El principi d’Arquimedes, and a 30th-anniversary tribute to Nissaga de poder. Joining previously announced guests Emma Vilarasau, Jordi Bosch, and screenwriter Lluís Arcarazo for the tribute are Eva Santolaria and Jordi Banacolocha. The event will be hosted by journalist Mari Pau Huguet.

Further additions to the program involving platforms and networks like AXN and 3Cat will be announced soon.
