Serielizados Fest premieres this impressive Czech war drama inspired by Josef Hasil life.
It is the spring of 1948. The joy of peace has not yet subsided, and both East and West fear a Third World War. The two worlds are separated by the deep forests of the Bohemian Forest (Šumava in Czech).
In the middle of it is Josef Hasil, a twenty-four-year-old cook serving in the National Security Corps kitchen in Zvonková. He is a wild boy. He has already spent the war in a German labor camp and as a partisan liaison. Now he wants fun, adventure and freedom. The last thing he’s interested in is politics, but the rapidly closing borders, the fear of war and his ability to move through the Šumava mountains from East to West force him to become a smuggler.
This riveting miniseries directed by David Ondříček, winner of six Czech Lion Awards, is inspired by David Jan Žák’s best-selling novel ‘The Return of the King of Šumava‘, based on Josef Hasil’s own recollections, contemporary eyewitness and archive documents.
Original version (Czech) with Spanish and Catalan subtitles.
Run time: 50 minutes.
