Smoking men, dusty streets, bodies wrapped in carpets… From the beginning, the Kazakh series 1286 makes it clear that its images come to be engraved in our memory.
The story revolves around the mild-mannered surgeon Aman, who is about to separate from his wife when he is kidnapped by a group of criminals. In captivity Aman will be forced to work under physical and psychological pressure in a labor camp run by fascists. Meanwhile, his still-wife is relentless in her attempt to involve the authorities – who seem rather indifferent to her demands – in her search.
Described as the series that would have emerged from a common project between Aleksei German, Andrei Tarkovsky and David Lynch, this piece of fiction is a dark and surreal story that will not leave any viewer indifferent.
