Serielizados Fest and Spain Film Commission organize this masterclass for audiovisual professionals and students about the creative process behind ‘Succession’.
Jesse Armstrong’s series about the Roy family has become one of the most important titles in recent television fiction; a brutal and hilarious look at the workings of power. Now that the series has come to an end, Armstrong will look back on its origin, the figures who helped inspire the character of Logan Roy, and the construction of dialogue, scenes and characters.
Before its worldwide fame with Succession, Jesse Armstrong’s career was highlighted by his Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for the black comedy about Islamic terrorists Three Lions and by his work in British television. From that period, his work as a screenwriter on Armando Ianucci’s cult series The Thick of it and his feature film spin-off In the Loop stand out.
Previously, Armstrong co-created with Andrew O’Connor and Sam Bain the comedy series Peep Show and Fresh Meat and wrote the screenplay for the remembered Black Mirror episode, The Entire History of You. Later, like Ianucci with Veep, Jesse Armstrong signed with HBO, where he developed Succession and turned it into the landmark title it is today. For his work on the series he has won no less than 5 Emmy Awards so far.
That is why Serielizados Fest has organized a masterclass where Armstrong will talk about the creative process behind the series, and his work as a screenwriter.
