Serielizados – Festival de Series de Barcelona reveals the first guests, titles, and activities of its 13th edition, which will take place from October 19 to 28 at the CCCB, Mooby Aribau cinemas, Phenomena Experience, and Casa Cupra.

Steven Moffat will be one of the main international guests at the festival. The Scottish screenwriter has an extensive career in British television and is especially known for creating Sherlock (2010–2017), the BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman that offered a reimagining of the classic character created by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Steven Moffat was also the showrunner for several years of Doctor Who, one of the most iconic series in British science fiction. Notable among his work as a creator and writer are also the sitcom Coupling (2000–2004), miniseries like Jekyll (2007) and Dracula (2020), or the satire Douglas Is Cancelled (2024), one of his most recent titles. His career also extends to film, where he co-wrote The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011), directed by Steven Spielberg.

The festival will also welcome Sue Vertue, television producer of most of these series, as well as one of the UK’s most iconic TV shows: Mr. Bean.

Festival Opening and Closing: In Vitro and Episòdic: El principi d’Arquimedes

The series In Vitro will be the opening title of the 13th edition of Serielizados – Festival de Series de Barcelona. Created by Marc Crehuet and Alejandra Guimerà, this dramedy is set in an assisted reproduction clinic and explores ethical, emotional, and personal dilemmas surrounding fertility, motherhood, and new family models.

Crehuet made his debut as a TV creator with the memorable series Pop Ràpid, also on 3Cat, and has stood out as director of films such as The One-Eyed King (based on his own play) and Mirror, Mirror, among other works.

In Vitro features an ensemble cast led by Bruna Cusí, David Verdaguer, María Pujalte, Diana Gómez, Alain Hernández, Peter Vives, Francesc Ferrer, and Anna Bertran, among others. A large portion of the cast and crew will attend the premiere. Following its run at the festival, the series will premiere in the autumn on 3Cat and HBO Max.

Meanwhile, the closing event will feature the full screening of El principi d’Arquimedes, the first project from Episòdic, a new anthology production promoted by the Department of Culture and Creative Industries of the Barcelona City Council (via ICUB) and betevé, with Serielizados leading the creative and production team. In this first installment, the project adapts El principi d’Arquimedes, one of playwright Josep Maria Miró’s most renowned and performed works. The series, consisting of six 15-minute episodes, will premiere on betevé’s broadcast and platforms in late 2026.

Episòdic is a project created entirely by audiovisual students from universities, vocational centers, and film schools. In total, 38 students participated in every phase of its creative and production process. The series stars Albert Salazar, Joan Esteve, Anna Ycobalzeta, Iván Morales, Sofia Massa, and Aitana Ropero, directed by Ainhoa Lastra, Andrea Morales, and Carlos R. Haro, with scripts by Daniel Duran, Marta Lorenzo, and Ariadna Puértolas.

‘Segunda temporada’ (Filmin) to compete in the National Official Section

Another highlighted series premiering as part of the 13th Serielizados – Festival de Series de Barcelona line-up will be Segunda temporada. This Filmin Original focuses on the miseries of Paula Ferrara, a writer and generational voice who, five years after her hit debut, suffers a creative breakdown and scrapes by as a ghostwriter for successful influencers. Her latest desperate gig is writing the biography of Lil Rogelio, a fading trap legend recently released from prison who is allegedly seeking redemption.

Segunda temporada is created by Miguel Ángel Blanca, who was also responsible for one of Filmin’s biggest hits, Autodefensa. Blanca, director of films like Magaluf Ghost Town and Quiero lo eterno, directs and co-writes the series alongside Berta Prieto and Víctor Diago. Prieto also stars in the show alongside rapper Adán Domínguez (Oktoba).

The series will compete in the National Official Section of the festival, with cast and crew presenting the project. Segunda temporada was selected during the third edition of Serielizados Kick, an initiative by Serielizados that promotes the creation and development of series in Catalan.
