The 12th edition of Serielizados – Barcelona Series Festival adds more outstanding titles to its lineup, which will take place from November 3 to 12 at the CCCB, Mooby Aribau cinemas, and CASA SEAT.
Premiere of The Paper, spin-off of The Office
The festival will exclusively premiere in Spain the highly anticipated series The Paper (SkyShowtime), which emerges from the same universe as The Office. In this mockumentary, the team that immortalized the Dunder Mifflin branch in Scranton in The Office now focuses on a historic local newspaper in the American Midwest and its editor, who tries to revive it. The series also features an ensemble cast led by Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Ex Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore, best known for the second season of The White Lotus.
The Paper is created by Greg Daniels, original creator of the U.S. version of The Office, as well as other TV hits like Parks and Recreation and Upload, together with Michael Koman, writer of How To with John Wilson and Nathan Fielder’s show Nathan for You. After its screening at Serielizados, The Paper will premiere on November 14 on SkyShowtime.
Premiere of Portobello, the new series by Marco Bellocchio
Serielizados will also host the exclusive Spanish premiere of Portobello, an HBO Original series directed by veteran Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio. The series, the first Italian production for HBO Max, had its world premiere just over a month ago at the Venice Film Festival and focuses on one of Italy’s most notorious cases of injustice: the story of TV host Enzo Tortora, accused of belonging to a Camorra drug trafficking organization.
Marco Bellocchio is one of Europe’s great filmmakers, director of films such as Devil in the Flesh, Vincere, The Traitor and Kidnapped, among many others. His previous series, Exterior Night, also had its national premiere at Serielizados.
Animation spotlight with Soul Shift and La vraie vie
The festival will also dedicate a space to animation with a joint screening of the series Soul Shift and La vraie vie.
Soul Shift is a clever adventure exploring the meaning of life and the origin of the universe through two atypical protagonists. Echoing titles like Rick & Morty or Futurama, the series stands out for its visual style and a narrative featuring over one hundred characters.
La vraie vie, on the other hand, is a documentary in which a young actor questioning his profession accepts a puzzling new role: exploring, as an avatar, an online video game set in a virtual world where everyone follows the rules — everyone except him. The series surprised audiences at festivals like Canneseries and Visions du Réel.
