Set in Oslo in the year 1985, Golden Years is an original comedy starring a family of hippies who leave their commune and come face to face with capitalism.
Norway, 1985. An anti-establishment woman decides to separate from her partner and leave the hippie commune where they have always lived with her two children, moving to an increasingly changing Oslo. In this new reality, they will have to face capitalism head-on, social democracy, and a growing wave of right-wing ideology.
In this new life, the woman starts working at Norwegian public television – where she has to deal with a driven colleague who bases his professional education on American marketing –; her daughter begins a friendship/rivalry with a conservative classmate who is a fan of Margaret Thatcher; and the youngest son discovers television and the materialistic world alongside a new rich friend.
Golden Years is a comedy about family, work, education, and the search for oneself in the decade when Norway lost its innocence. A different take on nostalgia with humor similar to shows like Malcolm in the Middle.
