Families Like Ours’s synopsis

In Denmark, in the not-so-distant future, rising water levels due to climate change have reached a point of no return and the country must begin an evacuation. As people scatter in all directions, they try to say goodbye to loved ones, to places they know and also to people they have been.

Slowly but steadily, everything is different. Property is worthless, fortunes change and luck favors only a few. Those who can afford it travel to other countries, while others less privileged depend on government relocation funds to more troubled destinations. Families and friends are separated. Some are overcome by hatred and division, others try to hold on to affection and build a new beginning.

In the midst of this bleak environment we meet Laura, a teenage student about to graduate, immersed in her first love. When the evacuation is announced, the lives of Laura and her family change forever, and Laura is forced to make an impossible decision: to choose between the three people she loves most in this world.

Its cast includes Amaryllis August, Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt (Another Round), Nikolaj Lie Kaas (The Kingdom: Exodus), Paprika Steen (The Celebration), Helene Reingaard Neumann (Another Round, The Commune), Magnus Millang (Another Round, Borgen), Esben Smed (Follow the Money), David Dencik (Pressure Point, Prisoner, Chernobyl), Thomas Bo Larsen (Another Round, Follow the Money) or Asta Kamma August (Hypnosis, Kalak).

Families Like Ours is produced by Zentropa Entertainments, StudioCanal, Canal+ and TV 2 Denmark. Premiere on Movistar Plus+ in November.
