Serielizados Fest closed its 8th edition closes with more than 236.500 spectators, and honors two great shows: ‘Blackport’, created by Gisli Öm Gardarsson, Nína Dögg FIlippusdóttir and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson received the Jury Award of the Official Competition, and ‘We are Lady Parts’ created by Nina Manzoor, won the Young Jury Reteena Award.
The Official Competition Jury was formed by Daphna Levin, Enric Ortuño, Elisabet Casanovas and Schiaffino Mussarra.
In the words of the Jury, ‘Blackport’ (Iceland, 2021), is a show that has all the qualities that make good TV, excellent ensemble of actors, and fantastic cinematography and editing. It tells a story of a local drama in a small remote village yet manages to extract universal humanistic political and femenist meanings out of it. All with heart-warming sincerity and a wacky sense of humour.
On the other hand, the british ‘We Are Lady Parts’ (2021) follows a group of teen female muslims who play in a punk band in London. The mission of the band ‘Lady Parts’ is to get a decent show with an audience.
These are two of the more than 35 series and documentaries that the audience could follow through the online platform of the festival, Filmin. In the physical editions of Barcelona and Madrid, 6.500 people have gathered to watch international guests such as Daphna Levin (Euphoria), Paul Abbot (Shameless), filmmaker Werner Herzog, or national guests such as Bob Pop, Berto Romero, Isabel Peña, Carlo Padial among others.
Serielizados Fest has consolidated itself as the big event in Spain to promote Television Series for the general audience. Víctor Sala and Betu Martínez, directors of the festival stated: “It’s been one of the best editions of the history of Serielizados Fest. We’ve done three festivals (on in Barcelona, one in Madrid and one online) and we have achieved success in the hybrid model, surpassing last year’s online edition and getting closer to pre-covid physical event attendees in Barcelona and Madrid.”
