National Official Competition Awards
The Jury of the National Official Section, composed of casting director Luci Lenox (Jury President), Séries Mania Festival programmer Carlo Fasino, and actor Santi Vaca, has decided to grant the following awards:
Best Series
Yo, adicto (Disney+), created by Javier Giner and Aitor Gabilondo
The Jury highlights “the risk of the series and its raw portrayal, with no imposed metaphors and a lot of sincerity.”
They also note “that it truly shows the harsh reality of the world of drugs, as opposed to all the narco series. The series features spectacular performances, especially from the protagonist, even though the character might seem a bit of a jerk. It’s a portrait of addiction that doesn’t try to save the character and, at the same time, offers an insider’s view, very well translated into cinematic language.”
Best Screenplay
Celeste (Movistar Plus+). Screenplays by Diego San José, Daniel Castro, and Oriol Puig Playà
For “excelling in a genre with mastery, skillfully handling twists, the song, and the boldness of the script in making a gray character a great protagonist whom you end up falling in love with.”
Best Performance
The cast of Dieciocho (RTVE Play)
The Jury praises the series for its “freshness” and the “discovery of new talent, with an impeccable portrayal of society. In a short time, there is a lot of chemistry between the actors, who convey the tenderness of the characters.”
Special Mention for Best Performance
Raquel Ferri for Delta (3Cat)
“A great discovery during the festival. A magnetic performance.”
International Official Competition Awards
The Jury of the International Official Section, composed of creator and screenwriter Diego San José (DAMA Jury President), Aina Clotet (creator, director, screenwriter, and actress), and Lourdes Iglesias (creator and screenwriter), has decided to grant the following awards:
Best Series
Pressure Point (Sweden), created by Pelle Rådström
For always taking the most difficult decision and placing itself in the most uncomfortable position, both formally and morally, the award for Best International Series goes to Pressure Point.
Best Screenplay
Truelove (United Kingdom). Screenplays by Charlie Covell, Iain Weatherby, and Cherish Shirley
The Best Screenplay award goes to a series that “addresses something that concerns all of us. A series that mixes and distills genres: a friends’ reunion tinged with black humor and suspense while exploring love, friendship, and death in old age.”
Best Acting
Robyn Malcolm for After the Party (New Zealand, Australia)
And the award for Best Performance goes to an actress who impressed us all with her boldness, maturity, and honesty, for the multiple emotional layers and empathy she brings to a highly complex character. The Best Performance award goes to Robyn Malcolm for After the Party.
SAE CEV Young Jury Award
The SAE CEV Young Jury Award for Best International Series has been decided by students Genís Sabaté, Marc Bargalló, Iker Elorza Vidal, and Tristan Ferrusca and has been awarded to the series Truelove (United Kingdom).
Unanimously, they decided to give the award to a brave series that moved them with how it conveys the complexity of human relationships. For how it challenges stereotypes by talking about old age from an unapologetic perspective and shows us that actions that may seem cruel to the world are where true love can be found.
Popitas Audience Award
The Popitas Audience Award, given by festival attendees and decided among all the series competing in both Official Sections, goes to the series Yo, adicto.
